Reports
Bangladesh Briefer
Bangladesh is a small, low-lying country situated in the Bay of Bengal. Increasing tropical cyclones, floods, salinity and coastal erosion is pushing millions of Bangladeshis towards greater vulnerability. Yet, as we show in this brief report, with meagre resources, Bangladesh has built world leading, locally led adaptation and resilience programs. Through the Bangladesh case study, we make a clear case for Sapna’s policy ask – that Australia assume climate responsibilities towards vulnerable South Asian communities and countries through the loss and damage mechanism.
Global North-South Intersectionality Report
Since 2014, there’s been a rise in youth climate activism in Australia through movements like the Australian Youth Climate Coalition amongst others. This has brought many young people of colour into Australian climate activism – a space which has been predominantly White. This Sapna report is based on interviews with young South Asian climate activists in Australia, about their motivations and challenges. It takes us on a journey of the public and family life of these activists, to help understand activism and storytelling from a migrant’s perspective. It makes recommendations to make the movement more inclusive.
