South Asian Climate Stories

South Asia, a rapidly developing region and home to one-fourth of humanity, is one of the world’s most climate vulnerable places. This is largely on account of a large poor, rural, nature-dependent and subsistence livelihoods-based population; such communities make up 65% of South Asia’s population.

We bring stories about South Asian communities – how they are navigating climate change, of their knowledge and resilience, and actions to restore and secure their lands and livelihoods – to inform the global climate conversation about what ‘climate solutions’ look like from the ground up.

Research from South Asia shows that communities are experiencing interwoven challenges in securing their livelihoods and ways of living both under the effects of advancing climate change and increasing energy production. Watch this explainer.

No to Fossil Fuels, Yes to Renewables infographic

We need to rapidly phase out fossil fuels. But beyond the singular narrative of ‘stopping fossil fuels and starting renewables’, climate justice needs diverse stories that demonstrate what climate solutions look like for communities facing intersectional challenges.

Climate justice is not just about recognising the disproportionate impacts South Asian communities face despite having contributed the least to the crisis. Our stories reflect the sheer diversity of their climate actions.
